Our name is the combination of two words:
“SABA”—Arabic for queen and the original surname of one of our founders.
“CICA”—Derived from “cacique,” a Latin American Spanish word for the native chief that hails from the indigenous Taíno people.
Together, these words remind us of our collective history and our imagined future. We give thanks to those who paved the way, and now it’s our turn to lift up the powerful women and communities of color working to create a better world.
